FIR-Reacts

In association with the AILES beamline of synchrotron SOLEIL, we developed two absorption cells designed to probe the chemical composition of plasma discharges using synchrotron-based Fourier transform spectroscopy in the far-infrared region. The optical design of both absorption cells is identical and permit to obtain about 24 meter absorption pathlength and these two cells are equipped with electrodes having different configurations. The first set-up is optimized to study the spectra of radicals (NH2, OH, C2H, …) and/or neutral reactive molecules C3, S2O, …) produced in the positive column of the discharge. The second set-up exploits a hollow cathode configuration of the electrodes and permits to record absorption spectra of molecular ions (such as HN2+, ArH+, …). The spectra of these various families of very reactive species are recorded at the ultimate resolution (30 MHz) of the Bruker IFS 125 interferometer of the AILES beamline.
