Picosecond time-resolved photoionisation of PAH (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) , PANH (nitrogen-containing PAH) and their dimers

Interest in the electronic structure, photochemistry and photophysics of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) originates from their possible application as electron conductors in optoelectronic materials, but also from their observation in the interstellar medium. Recently, Nitrogen- and Boron-doped PAH moved into the focus, because replacement of a carbon atom by a heteroatom changes the conduction properties of PAH. Furthermore PANH play an important role in astrochemistry and are considered as carriers of the unidentified infrared bands (UIB).
In my group, we investigate PAH, PANH and their dimers by picosecond time-resolved photoionisation spectroscopy. In the lecture, I will present recent data on excimer formation in dimers of pyrene and tetracene, on azaphenanthrenes and on BN-substituted naphthalene.
