Research activities
My current research concerns, in the context of molecular electronics, the synthesis of nano-objects (nanoparticles, metal-oxo clusters called polyoxometalates or heteropolyanions) and their deposition on various supports such as Self-Assembled Monolayers or SAMs. These self-assembled layers are prepared by the Langmuir-Blodgett technique, by solution chemistry methods or by ultra-high vacuum evaporation of molecules of interest in electronics. Depending on the needs, they can be modified by laser irradiation or by impact of low energy electrons (typically < 50 eV). These molecular films as well as the deposits of nano-objects can be characterized by various spectroscopic techniques such as Sum Frequency Generation (SFG) spectroscopy, infrared, XPS, UPS, NEXAFS and High Resolution Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (HREELS). Information on the two-dimensional crystal structure of the Langmuir-Blodgett films is extracted from Grazing Incidence X-ray Diffraction (GIXD) measurements carried out at the SOLEIL synchrotron.
Another part of my research concerns catalysis, in particular through the immobilization of organometallic complexes on surfaces and the synthesis of new species. In the past, I have also worked with ices of interest in astrochemistry.
